    A. australis is one of the world's most dangerous scorpions due to its relative toxicity and temperament. It claims several lives each year.

The name Androctonus australis is derived from the Greek word Androctonus (roughly translated as "man-killer") and the Latin word australis (translated as "south"), which together translate as "southern man-killer".

Identifiable by a pale yellow to golden tan that provides camouflage in sandy deserts.

A hardy desert scorpion with a tough exoskeleton that helps to retain water in an arid environment. This scorpion does not burrow.

Solitary and territorial. Will attack other scorpions unless it's mating.

Like tarantulas, scorpions should not be handled. Dropping a scorpion can result in death of the scorpion unless it bites you before it's dropped. Then you both have a problem.
