Armadillidium nasatum 'Rust'

A color morph of Armadillidum nasatam that can be identified by its deeper orange color with a faint translucent stripe down its back from its head to tail. A darker grey stripe is its digestive tract. Its eyes (ocelli) are dark and see only light and dark.  

The square protrusion between its antennae is the "nasatum" or nose. Its tail has a rounded/pointed tip with incurved sides, which is a taxonomic exception to the standard flat tail of the Armadillidum species.

A tolerant, very hardy species that thrives in temperate environments with moderate humidity and moderate ventilation.

Breeding can be deterred with insufficient moisture.

Prefers darkness and will congregate under bark. Young isopods tend to burrow.

Not sexually dimorphic.

 

AKA "Pill Bug", thus rolls into a ball ("arma") to retain moisture when the habitat is too dry, as well as a defensive posture.
