Reproduction: Prolific. A Japanese line female isopod can breed several times a year without a male by storing his DNA. By doing this, the female can ensure that she can successfully reproduce and birth multiple isopod babies within a short time.

Difficulty: Good for beginning collectors. Easy to care for.A morph of the Armadillidium vulgare and cousin to the common pill bug. The Japanese line displays a semi-translucent white shell with large, bright yellow splotches and smaller black spots.
The Japanese line can tolerate a wide range of temperatures and humidity levels. They prefer semi-arid environments and can not tolerate excessive moisture—a moderate moisture gradient with recommendations online ranging from 1/4 to 1/3 wet-to-dry ratio.
Not sexually dimorphic.
AKA "Pill Bug," thus rolls into a ball to retain moisture when its habitat is too dry, as well as for a defensive posture.
Captive bred. Colonies include various sizes/ages.
