Difficulty: Good for beginning collectors. Easy to care for and breed.From the family Armidillidae. They are the longest-lived isopods at 5 - 9 years. They are also the only isopod that makes a humming sound, called stridulations, when disturbed.
This is a hardy species that tolerates a wide range of humidity and ventilation conditions.
Females can have multiple litters a year. However, they will not reproduce if there is insufficient space in their habitat.
AKA "Pill Bug", thus rolls into a ball ("arma") to retain moisture when the habitat is too dry, as well as a defensive posture. It is also said that this species' natural resting position is curled up.
Captive bred. Colonies include various sizes/ages.
