    Common Name: Mexican Redleg Tarantula
    Native Locale: Mexico scrublands and savanna.
    Category: Terrestrial,  New World
    Adult Size (DLS):  5  - 6.5 inches 
    Lifespan:  Females=25 years      Males=5-10 years
    Growth Rate: Slow
    Temperament: Said to be one of the most docile tarantula. 
    Difficulty: A suitable species for beginning collectors.

     

    Cousin to the Brachypelma boehmei, this large spider can be identified by its dark brown body and legs, and a lighter carapace marked with a distinctive black triangle. Its abdomen is deep black. The B emilia's legs are covered with orange/red/pink hairs.

    Defends itself via urticating hairs and biting. Venom is not considered medically significant.

    Requires substrate sufficient for deep burrowing.
