Difficulty: A good species for beginning collectors.A large spider, identifiable by a black abdomen covered in brown hairs. Their legs have three distinct orange to dark red-orange rings, giving them their name. Their carapace has a light greyish-red border (males) or a brownish-pink border (females). The center of the carapace is dark brown or black.
Obligate burrower, so make sure to provide sufficient substrate for deep burrows. When the burrow is in use, silk can be found near the entrance.
Defends itself via urticating hairs and biting. Venom is not considered medically significant.
