Fruit Flies (Drosophila hyde)
.
Drosophila is a genus of flies often called "small fruit flies" or pomace flies, vinegar flies, or wine flies, a reference to the characteristic of many species to linger around overripe or rotting fruit.
The Latin word 'hydei' translates to 'wingless'.
Adult Fruit Flies average 2 - 3 mm in size and have a life span of two to three months. They are the perfect feeder for baby reptiles, amphibians, tropical fish, and invertebrates.
We sell cultures in 32-oz containers. Each culture contains approximately 30-40 adult flies, along with larvae and pupae that will continue to produce new flies for about one to two months, provided that at least five to ten adults remain in the container.
The container has all the water and food the flies need to survive. They should be stored at room temperature, and the container must be kept tightly sealed.
Care is super easy. All you need to do is feed the flies to your animals. Do not add food to fly cultures. To feed the flies to your animals, shake out the desired number of flies into the feeding enclosure. Be careful to tap down the flies from the lid first.
