Temperament: Defensive behavior includes retreating to their burrow and/or kicking hairs. It's reported that it seldom bites, and its venom is not considered medically significant.
Difficulty: IntermediateAdult males differ in coloration from female adults. Males have bright pink and purple colors, while females mostly have dark grey, brown, or black. Both males and females have a starburst pattern on the carapace. This large and heavy T should never be handled as a fall can be fatal.
These Ts burrow, so be sure to provide a sufficient amount of substrate. They also need shelter, such as bark.
