Porcellio dilatatus 'Giant Canyon'
.
Native Locale: Europe
Reproductive Rate: Fast (requires humidity)
Growth Rate: Fast
Adult Size: 15/16"
Difficulty: Good for beginning collectors. From the Porcellionidae family, these large isopods are identifiable by either brown or dark grey/blue bodies.
They have rigid, calcified bodies; they are fast, and determined burrowers. It's difficult to see them as they do not like to be exposed.
They are voracious eaters, so maintaining sufficient food is a must. Otherwise, they can cannibalize.
They can tolerate both humid and dry habitats. Since moisture is a minimum requirement, they should have a moisture gradient habitat consisting of one side that is moist (not wet) and the opposite side completely dry.
Not sexually dimorphic
AKA "Sowbug," thus cannot roll into a ball.
Captive bred. Colonies include various sizes/ages.
