One of the most commonly sold feeder insects for exotic pets, including reptiles and arachnids. Their high protein content makes them easier to digest than other insects. They are also high in vitamins A & E. Their bodies are softer than those of Dubia Roaches.

 

The average adult Red Runner is 1 to 1.5 inches long. Red Runners need plenty of heat and humidity to thrive. Red Runners have a lifespan of 6 - 12 months.

 

Red Runners originated in Northern Africa & Central Asia. Today, they can be found worldwide.

Considered an invasive species, Red Runners prefer living in the outdoors and do not typically inhabit human dwellings. They are attracted to light and are most active at night.

 

Red Runners are fast-moving and do not burrow. They can't jump or climb smooth surfaces. Males can jump-fly (not true flight), going up to 12 inches in height. insects

 

Sexually dimorphic - Adult males are more slender and have long, yellowish wings larger than their bodies. Females are broader and have tiny vestigial wings with a cream-colored border.

Very prolific breeders. Females can produce 1-2 egg casings per month; each casing contains 20-30 roaches.

 

They can cause allergic reactions to people who handle them too much, with constant exposure to the fragments of the body.
